Below: As you can see, in these two images, I usually paint my miniatures pinned to dowel rods.

The Space Marine backpacks are painted separately.

I was replicating the freehand I did on the original two Space Marines (see yeserday's post).

Again, all the yellow you see is the groundwork for non-metallic gold.

Dark Angels or Chaos?

You decide.

It was about four years ago, when I was working on my

Dark Angels army, and wanting to make them playable as DA and Chaos.

That's when I came up with the idea of merging Dark Angels bitz

with Chaos bitz to make Khorne Berserkers.

Hardly an original idea, but whatevs.

These are the two I built and painted, and put on eBay.

They sold right away, and I got an email from the buyer.

Can you make me eight more, so I have a ten man squad?

Um, sure...

Interrogator Chaplain

The first model assembled for my Dark Angels army, back in 2007.
That was also the very first year Jim and I went to Games Day Chicago. I brought my Chaplain, and a Chaos Spawn to enter into the Golden Demons. I had no idea what to expect. I believe that's the year a bunch of people who are now my friends decided to do a challenge where they each made a Primarch. So many amazing models in the Single Figure category. I knew I had no chance at a Demon, but I made the cut with him, so I was happy.

Unexpectedly, the Chaos Spawn won a Bronze that year, so I was really happy about that.

Lots of freehand on this guy too, which was another grand experiment.
Looking back on it, so many things I would do differently. Amazing what a few years of experience, and the influence of other artists will do to your work.

I started with an old metal Terminator Chaplain model, but he seemed so puny next to the brand new plastic Terminators that had just come out. I had to do something to beef him up.

Green Stuff and Brown Stuff were my new found friends.

Once Upon A Time...I had a Dark Angels army

In the dawn of time, when Blood Bowl was still celebrated at your friendly local Games Workshop store, I started a 40K army. The year was 2007, which means my first army was naturally going to be Dark Angels.

This was the first model in

my army:

The Interrogator Chaplain

It was all Green Stuff and Brown Stuff. Plasticard and Milliput. Sculpey and cork.

Converting models was a fairly new thing for me.

As you can see, I had a lot of fun with it.

I wanted his Crozius Arcanum to be special.

Side by side before and after paint.
